‘(HUMAN) NATURE’, in progress

An exhibition or publication is yet to be announced as this art series is still in progress

The latest art photography series by Helena Vegter explores the intricate relationship between humans and nature, touching on the idea that when we harm the natural world, we ultimately harm ourselves, whether directly or indirectly.

The concept grew out of Helena’s longstanding interest in different cultures and religions, as seen in her earlier series Clothing from Different Cultures (2017) and My Freedom, Islam (2019). This new body of work is inspired in part by the Rastafari worldview and its vision of the human connection with nature.

In progress since 2022, the series follows one model through different scenes that reflect her connection to nature.

During the making of this series, Helena also began to question her own relationship with nature. She has been a vegetarian for years, yet she sometimes embraces fashion choices that may be considered less ethical. The work does not seek to judge, but to invite reflection on the personal and collective contradictions we all face. These complexities form the central theme of the series: our (human) nature. The series is still in progress, as Helena is finalizing it and considering the best moment and platform for exhibition and publication.
